REFLECTION

Experience
Drawing 16 unique images for the book design project was both a challenging and rewarding journey. It required constant creativity, patience, and technical precision to visually narrate the essence of each scene. Every brushstroke and color choice deepened my connection to the storyline, making the process a profound artistic exploration.

Observation
I wanted to create illustrations in the style of Chinese landscape paintings. At first, I couldn't draw a smooth storyline because the style of each painting was inconsistent. Later, I made the 16 illustrations look coherent and unified by using the same style of colors and the same elements, such as bamboo forests, mountains, and branches.

Discovery
Through this project, I realized the importance of combining imagination with careful planning. Each illustration taught me that paying attention to subtle details can significantly enhance the narrative impact of design works.

FURTHER READING

 The Design of Books

I was impressed by reading Chapter 5, "Typography and Hierarchy" (pp. 120–140). Based on examples, Berne analyzes how to create a comfortable reading experience for the text through technical details such as font size, line spacing, and word spacing. In particular, regarding the design of chapter titles, she mentioned that "overly complex title styles will distract readers, while appropriate simplicity is more attractive." The author emphasizes that typography is not only about aesthetics, but also directly affects the readability and logical clarity of the content. When reading this part, I realized that although typography is often overlooked, it actually constructs the visual language of the book and is crucial to the reader experience.
