Exercises 1 - 2

LECTURES

We need to start preparing a topic that identifies the different types of infographics, determines the types of information they apply to, and provides examples of each identified type.

Exercises

ex1
In the first exercise, we were tasked with quantifying our chosen items (buttons/Legos/coins/M&Ms) and arranging these objects into an easy-to-observe layout or chart. The requirement is that the information must be presented as is, with relevant metrics written in pen to help us visualize the quantity and data.

I chose M&Ms for this exercise. I used different colored M&Ms and put them together in the shape of a plum blossom, a branch and a light rain.

Exercise 1 : Quantify and Visualize Data

ex2
In Exercise 2, we were tasked with combining a set of information in the form of a visual poster and utilizing LATCH principles (at least 4 principles). We needed to use digital photo editing/illustration software to integrate information into LATCH infographic posters to create an impressive visual presentation. We have the right to reuse images to achieve better visual effects.

The size resolution of the poster is required to be 1240 × 1750 pixels or 2048 × 2048 pixels to ensure image clarity and quality.

I chose Pokémon as my poster theme. In the poster, I listed four different categories of Pokémon (grass, ice, elves, insects), each with a corresponding regional name and evolutionary type. In addition, I have listed the name of each Pokémon to make the information more complete and clearer.

First, I drew a Pokémon Island, the northernmost is frost mountain, ocean, suitable for ice Pokémon survival. To the west is the third Western District, where Pokémon lives. To the south is warm grassland with a tropical climate and herbivores and insects. I drew a rough map of the island, then refined it, added different types of Pokémon and text descriptions, and the whole poster was complete.

Reflection

Experience

In this experiment, the choice to use M&Ms as the research subject was an ingenious decision. First, these colored chocolate beans have distinct characteristics that make them easy to distinguish and classify. In this way, both in the quantization process and in the subsequent visualization, the quantity and distribution of different colors can be clearly displayed.

Observed

The first observation is that the colors of chocolate beans correspond to different quantities. Through careful observation and sorting, we can see that there are more chocolate peas in some colors than others.

Findings

Another discovery was to make chocolate beans into the shapes of plum blossoms, branches and light rain. This creative approach is not only a visual pleasure, but more importantly, it allows us to present the data in a more interesting and story-telling way. This creative visualization helps capture the audience's attention.
