LECTURES

Week 1 module introduction and briefing of the first 2 exercises for Project 1, as well as signing up for a new Pinterest account. We also play Bessel games to practice our pen tool skills. The introduction provides an overview of what Photoshop is, including why and how it matters to designers. The mention of photo manipulation is meant to show us things people used to do before Photoshop existed, while also including what people could do using Photoshop, such as "digital imaging". Some tips share with us on how to become a successful graphic designer. Before starting our practice, our task was to find 3 photo manipulated images on Pinterest and please explain in detail why we chose them.

The imaginary grid has 9 parts with 4 intersecting points

The Golden ratio
Mathematical ratios, which cultivate organic and natural aesthetic components pleasing to the eye (through harmony and proportion)

Useful guidelines for determining layout size (easy way is to set the scale 1:1.618) Composition (framing and cropping)

Different images are stacked on top of each other. Lossless editing
Never destroy the original image

Week 4 Introduction to Photoshop 3 (Adjust layers and Filters)

Adjustment layer

A set of very useful, non-destructive image editing tools that add color and tone adjustments to an image without permanently changing any pixel.
"Basic understanding" of original image can be edited and abandoned at any time to adjust/restore.
Brightness (adjust highlights)/Contrast (adjust shadows)
Level (Adjust the level of shadows, middle and highlights)
Curve (edit tone)
Exposure (adjust exposure level, offset and gamma)
Optional colors (Modify the number of primary colors without modifying other primary colors)
filter

Change colors, add blur/create brand new image effects.

Week 5 Double exposure and image blending mode

Merge multiple images; No need for a double-exposure camera
What can it do?

Axis shifting effect; Transform photos into soft works of art (blur photos with 1 help/blur everything but 1); Filter &get; Fuzzy Gallery &get; Shift axis

Creating false reflections; With the help of separate window photos - try simple portraits and detail textures.

Convert your results to black and white.

Use silhouette; Add a detailed image silhouette in the blank - select 2 photos at random.

Make simple objects look fascinating; Simple base shape inside detailed background - using shadows.

Mixed mode

Week 6 Photo processing ideas

Photo processing

Convert/change photos using various methods and techniques.
Need to create illusion.

Week 7 digital photography exposure Settings

Exposure
Is to reach the camera sensor/film.

The amount of light is the main component of the camera.

Camera body (shutter, image sensor, LCD screen)

Camera lens (aperture/aperture)

Shutter speed and aperture are what affect the actual "luminous exposure."
The only 2 camera Settings - the camera ISO also affects the photo.

The brightness of the aperture/aperture

Control the flow of light into the lens.
Measured by aperture, The lower the F. Lens opening.
Larger shutter
Small plastic sheets that open and close to allow light to hit the film/prevent light from reaching the film.
Measure shutter speed d (the larger the value, the clearer; The lower the value, the more blur) ISO
Camera sensor
The sensitivity (signal gain) of the lens perspective

Focus Distance

From the optical center of the camera lens to the camera.

Week 9: Digital Surrealism versus realism

There is a clear contrast between digital surrealism and realism. Realism takes the ordinary and ordinary world as its subject, almost always adopting non-exotic and non-extraordinary themes. It doesn't require thinking outside the box because it focuses on depicting the real world.

Surrealism, on the other hand, is a very different genre of art that focuses on dreamlike images and often aims to distort the mundane. It defies logic, is full of strange images and crazy juxtapositions. Surrealism is a cultural movement that focuses on an art form that expresses the inner thoughts of the artist.

In addition, Dadaism is an anti-war art movement, and its art works are inherently ironic and absurd.

Week 10: An introduction to After Effects

After Effects is a 2.5D animation software for animation, visual effects and film synthesis, which can be widely used in the creation of film, television and web video. It provides hundreds of effects that can be used to manipulate images, allowing us to combine video and image layers in the same scene.

By manipulating vector and rasterization art, After Effects can create motion graphic animated works that can be used to tell a story.

In Photoshop, the compositing layers need to be properly arranged and renamed in order to be organized and composited in After Effects. In After Effects, composited layers need to be organized and synchronized with external software platforms such as Photoshop and Illustrator. After Effects does not embed media, but links to it.

All in all, by using After Effects and Photoshop compositing layers, we are able to create stunning visuals that bring more creativity and possibilities to personal and professional creations. These tools give us a platform for creativity and expression, allowing us to turn our imagination into reality and create unforgettable works.

Week 2: Exploring Layering During the second week, our focus was on understanding and utilizing various selection tools such as the 'Lasso Tool,' 'Polygonal Tool,' and 'Magnetic Tool.' As part of our classroom exercises, we were assigned to download four pictures and employ these tools to accomplish specific tasks involving layering techniques.

REFLACTION
In this semester, I learned Photoshop, a powerful image processing tool, and I applied what I learned to a wide range of applications, including photo editing, poster design and animation. Through this process, I have accumulated valuable experience and gained many skills and knowledge.

First of all, learning Photoshop gives me the ability to edit pictures. I learned to use various tools such as brushes, erasers, restoration tools and cropping tools to adjust, restore and beautify images. I can change the brightness, contrast, and color saturation of the image to make it more attractive. In addition, I learned to use layers and masks, as well as apply filter effects to make images look better.

Secondly, I learned to use Photoshop to design posters. Through the choice of fonts, colors, and layouts, I was able to create impressive visuals. I can add various elements such as pictures, ICONS and text to make the poster more attractive and informative. Learning Photoshop has made me understand the principles and techniques of design, and improved my creativity and design thinking.

Finally, learning Photoshop also allowed me to make animations. I learned to use timelines and keyframes to turn still images into vivid animations. Adds a sense of motion to still images. This creative process was both interesting and challenging, and gave me a deeper understanding of the principles of image processing and animation.

Overall, learning Photoshop was a productive experience. Through this process, I have not only mastered powerful image processing tools, but also improved my creativity and design ability. I encountered challenges in the process of using Photoshop, but through constant practice and trial and error, I gradually overcame the difficulties and made progress. I believe that Photoshop will be a powerful tool in my future work and creation, and I look forward to continuing to explore and develop my skills in my future study and practice.
