LECTURE
Week 9 Light & Shadow
Light and shadow and the contrast of light and shade play an important role in the design.
Through the clever use of light and shadow effects, designers can add dimension and depth to an image, making it more vivid and realistic.
Chiaroscuro refers to the use of varying degrees of brightness and dimness in the image to create a strong contrast effect.
This contrast can make elements in an image sharper, stand out, and increase overall visual appeal.
The image is precisely retouched and clipped with the utility knife tool, and through the use of light and shadow and contrast of light and shade, it creates an impressive graphic effect.

Storytelling basics
The central theme is the core content of the story, which conveys the main idea or underlying meaning.
Often, it reflects the storyteller's personal insight into the subject.
A story may contain one or more primary and secondary themes.

The theme is the idea that runs through the narrative and intertwines it.

Secondary themes are more subtle ideas that do not necessarily recur.

Conflict is what drives the story, creating tension and building suspense that makes the story interesting.
Without conflict, the audience will not be interested and there will be no compelling story.
The reason why the conflict appeals to the audience makes them sit nervously on the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to see if the protagonist can overcome the obstacles.

A story usually involves multiple characters, each playing a different role or having a different goal.
However, regardless of the number of characters, there is almost always a central character and an opponent.

The central characters are crucial to the development of the story, and the plot revolves around them.

The main character is the central character of the story, and he or she has a clear goal to achieve or a conflict to overcome.
The protagonists don't always need to be admirable, but they have to earn the audience's emotional investment.

The opponent is opposed to the protagonist, standing between them and their ultimate goal.
Opponents can come in a variety of forms, such as characters, places, items, or situations, posing a huge obstacle for the protagonist.

Three-Acts Structure
1. Setup: The world in which the protagonist exists prior to the journey. The setup usually ends with the conflict being revealed.
2. Rising Tension: The series of obstacles the protagonist must overcome. Each obstacle is usually more difficult and with higher stakes than the previous one.
3. Conflict: The point of highest tension, and the major decisive turning point for the protagonist.
Resolution: The conflict's conclusion, this is where the protagonist finally overcomes the conflict, learns to accept it, or is ultimately defeated by it. Regardless, this is where tourney ends.

Setup1

Once upon a time, in a country gripped by a terrible plague known as the Red Death, Prince Prospero decided to gather a thousand friends and spend the day in a castle monastery in deep seclusion.

Every day, they enjoyed abundant supplies and various amusements in this safe place while the plague raged outside.

Setup2

One day, just as the fifth month of seclusion was coming to an end, the prince decided to give a grand masquerade.

The rooms of the ball are very strange, there are seven rooms, and because of this, each room has a unique decoration and effect.

One of the rooms has a huge ebony clock that chimes every hour to create a sense of unease and meditation.

Still, the ball was full of carnival and beautiful decorations, people were immersed in fun, and the sound of the clock became part of the party.

Setup3

Until finally, at midnight, when the clock struck to end the music and the revelry, everything fell silent.

But as the clock began to strike 12, a deep fear gripped the scene.

The door of the black room was open, and a redder light radiated from the blood-colored panes, and the clock made a low and solemn sound.

The people in the westernmost room felt uneasy, and they decided not to take any more chances.

However, the people in the other rooms continued the party, and the clock struck midnight, ending the party.

REFLACTION

Creating story triptychs, visual novels, and dynamic visual novels with Adobe Illustrator is a fun and creative process. :

Story triptych:
A triptych tells a story through three consecutive images. Using Illustrator makes it easy to draw and design each picture and ensure that they remain consistent across the board.

Visual fiction:
A visual novel is a form of telling a story visually, often communicating plot and emotion through a series of images and texts.

Dynamic visual novels:
Dynamic visual novels combine images with animated effects to create a more vivid and engaging story experience.
